My grandfather Papa John turned 80 a couple of weeks ago! His birthday was actually on May 7th, but we went up on May 14th to celebrate. Papa John is my mom's dad and he and my step grandmother Margaret live in Edmond, OK, outside of Oklahoma City. 80 is a huge year and we are so glad we were able to celebrate with him! My brother Matthew flew in from Greenville, SC to surprise him and he definitely was very happy to see him! We drove up Saturday morning and enjoyed a delicious lunch of brisket and ham, beans, potato salad, and last but not least, two different cakes! Margaret prepared everything and it was all so good! We had a wonderful time visiting and spending time together.

After lunch, we decided to take a look around their property. Margaret has a beautiful garden that she grows many flowers and vegetables in. Here are some of her tomato plants in an earth box. It is a great way to grow tomatoes if you don't have a lot of space. It comes in a little kit. This would be awesome for anyone doesn't want to plant a big garden but would like to have fresh tomatoes. We are all on the look out for one after seeing Margaret's!
Look at the field of poppies! Aren't they gorgeous! Margaret says they come back every year.
I love the red and purple together. So pretty!

My mom decided she wanted to take some of Margaret's plants home with her, so Matthew went around digging them up for her. My mom has a knack for making things grown in her garden and loves to take things from other people's gardens. I think it is neat to know your plants came from a loved one's garden.
I am upset we did not get a picture with all of us with Papa John! It would have been nice to have. We really enjoyed the day we spent with Papa John and Margaret. We caught them up to speed on our lives and Papa John shared some his infamous jokes with us. He is always trying to make you laugh. We are so glad we were able to celebrate with them. We love you both very much!
