Katy Trail 5K 2011

For the third year in a row, I ran the Katy Trail 5K last night. The race is the annual fundraising event for the Katy Trail which runs from American Airlines Center into Highland Park. When we lived in Uptown, I ran on the trail quite frequently and really enjoyed it. The Katy Trail provides a way for people living in the city to "escape" for a little while and see some nature either while running, walking, biking or roller blading. The race is always in May on a Thursday and ends with a huge party at Reverchon Park. Michelob Ultra sponsors the event so there is plenty of beer and lots of restaurants come and set up booths and give out food. Usually a lot of our friends do the race, but this year there were lots of scheduling conflicts, so it ended up just being me and Casey who ran the race. I have been running pretty frequently (4 or 5 times a week) the past couple of weeks, so I was optimistic about time. I did not do quite as well as I hoped and talked about in this post, but my goal at the starting line was to break 30 minutes. My official time according to the website was 29:59!! Can you believe it? One second! I beat my previous two years times as well, so it was a successful run! Here are some (not so great) pictures from the race. We had a fun time and I am glad I got to run it with Casey!
